JOB SUMMARY
Works under broad direction to plan, organize, direct, and participate in work of major research project in field of specialization for which incumbent is particularly qualified by virtue of extensive training and experience.

The McFadden lab seeks a dynamic, collegial, team-driven senior research scientist to drive an expanding effort to study fusion-driven pediatric sarcoma. The research scientist will lead a team effort, supervise a research technician, and report directly to Dr. McFadden. These studies will involve CRISPR engineering of patient-derived cancer cell lines, CRISPR-base editing studies, and high-throughput small molecule screening in collaboration with the UTSW HTS Core. The successful candidate will have experience with molecular cloning, CRISPR-Cas9, cell culture, and large-scale data analysis. Excellence in communication, scientific writing, and scientific presentation required. Strong fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

• Education
  PhD with major coursework in field of assignment or
  Master’s Degree with major coursework in field of assignment

• Experience
  6 years research experience in field of assignment; including at 1 year at the level of Research Scientist or its equivalent with a PhD or
  9 years research experience in field of assignment; including at least 2 years at level of Research Scientist or its equivalent with Master’s degree

Preferred

• Education
  May consider a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment with additional related experience.

JOB DUTIES

• Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and personally participates in major medical or scientific research project, including development and implementation of research protocols. Selects key research personnel; determines specific goals or objectives to be attained; assigns and reviews work of subordinates.
• Reviews and analyzes resulting research data; revises techniques or approaches to work problems as indicated necessary by research data. Compiles, writes, and submits project results to principal investigator or department chairman.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co-authors.
• Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
• Plans and supervises training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.
• Confers with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research project.
• Supervises large group of employees engaged in performance of technical and professional work, which varies from routine to complex laboratory work tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
